Sounds just like a starter motor when it goes bad, when all you hear is the clicking from the solenoid. The voltage at the IN post of the solenoid measures 12V+, but when I hit the switch, it measures about 3V at the OUT post, and also at the winch motor Winch will not spool in or out any longer but I do get a click from the solenoid. I checked the current going into the winch from the solenoid and get 12 volts and also tried direct to the battery and nothing, it free spools fine but does seem to be bit of sloop in the spool knob that I don't remember but it does seem to lock out No out on winch, just the solenoid click. In works and sometimes won't stop reeling in. Also bumped the out and when not clicking would sometimes reel in as well. Took apart the handlebar switch (in and out) but not much there (two wires) and contacts looked decent inside plastic. I found the solenoid, under the passenger side. As for the wireless reciever for your phone. 89 bucks One thing to keep in mind about using 3-wire orange electrical extension cord for a remote control for a winch is that it won't work for Warn winches made in the past 8-10 years or so. Those winches require a 5-wire cable, unless you modify the winch's solenoid wiring to no longer route their electrical ground connection through the remote control Nice looking Rig ! I just installed my Warn 10s Platinum yesterday with the warn winch plate. I bought the warn power interrupt kit that I plan to run off my Aux switch. It is a solenoid that interrupts power from the battery cable. I plan to do that today before the playoff games start. I am making an aluminum bracket for the solenoid to.
Picked up a project yesterday, an older Warn MX4085 D1 4k pound winch. Winch came to me in a box as pictured, and was not running when it was disassembled by the previous owner. A wiring diagram is a streamlined conventional photographic depiction of an electrical circuit. It reveals the elements of the circuit as streamlined forms, and also the power and signal links in between the tools I have it mounted just below the radio. The solenoid box is mounted on the fender-well, up by the firewall and I mounted a controller plugin to the front bumper so I can use either the in-cab controls or plug in by the winch for better visibility. The kit came with a full wiring diagram for different winches, so the install was a breeze
I'm thinking about using an Aux switch directly to the winch motor to turn it on/off. Haven't figured out the wiring yet, but don't see the need for the Warn interrupt as isn't that just wiring a solenoid to another soleniod? (The controller on the x20 is a big solenoid already) Thoughts? add: has anyone found a wiring diagram for the x20 Note: The winch solenoid is not generally mounted near the winch. In most installations, it is under the seat, or near the battery somewhere. If it is necessary to replace your winch, consider a Superwinch Terra 25 or 35. BTW the newer Power Wagons have all the tech that the Bronco has including a camera they call surround view camera so maybe not a 360 camera but close Tim, thanks and I have not yet called Warn. This present setup (switch) has no solenoid, just straight from the battery, through the switch and to the winch. I may well have to go to a simple, weatherproof, 3 way toggle switch and add a High amp 12 volt solenoid. Would much rather a more compact, high amp, 4 wire switch but I may be dreaming only

I have installed new cables, cleaned the A, F1, F2 connectors on bothe the winch and the solenoid and I tested the winch and nothing. It makes a clicking noise in the solenoids when I try to reel it in but the spool assembly does not rotate Investigating the Broken Winch. The first thing I did, before the Warn Winch rebuild was to check that the solenoid was working and that the winch itself was getting power. The solenoid was clicking, confirming that there was power and that the solenoid was definitely working. The next thing I needed to find out was if the winch was getting power ive just finished installing my winch on my 90, its a warn 9.5xp with a albright solenoid in the engine bay. yesterday when i was winching i was pressing the winch in button on my controller and nothing was happening, no winch movement and no clicking from the solenoid, after 4-5 times pressing the button the winch kicked in but it continued to do this until in the end no matter how many times. May 25, 2021 mine failed this weekend...I hear the click of the solenoid, but no motor action. but recalled your post and was wondering which warn winch you were putting in...is it a newer warn winch, or a refurbished, etc. If i have to replace. Re: mounting non-integrated winch solenoid. the ground wire on the conrol pack is very sensitive, do not add any wire to it, make sure you ground it and the metal frame of the control pack. the new warn winches uses a ground loop circuit that adds a lot of resistance to the remote. adding to the control pack wire will only compound the situation This will test the winch motor and gears, eliminating the hand controller and controller pack (solenoids). Measure where the lead leaves to go to the motor. If the voltage is on just one of those two bigger solenod lugs (the two smaller leads control the solenoid) and the solenoid is 'on', the solenoid is bad. If there is voltage leaving the solenoid going to the winch motor, odds are the winch motor is bad.
